Pertamina Corporate University receives five-year CLIP re-accreditation

Pertamina Corporate University CLIP

We are pleased to announce that Pertamina Corporate University has completed the EFMD Corporate Learning Improvement Process (CLIP) and received CLIP re-accreditation for a five-year period.

CLIP is a premier quality management tool for corporate learning. It benchmarks a learning function against international standards of strategic positioning, target market, learning offer, operational model and impact with a focus on digital, agile and international aspects.

Martin Moehrle, Director of Corporate Services and CLIP at EFMD Global, commented:

“Congratulations to Pertamina Corporate University’s well-deserved CLIP re-accreditation. PCU impressed us through its strong re-positioning within the company, its rich learning ecosystem and its clear vision of an AI-enabled future.”

Pertamina Corporate University

Pertamina Corporate University (PCU) is the strategic learning arm of Pertamina, Indonesia’s national energy company. It functions as a driver of organisational development and “HC 5.0”, an AI-enabled, human-centred human capital vision. The university operates a structured portfolio of academies, including Digital, Sustainability, and New and Renewable Energy, designed to strengthen enterprise capability.

Reporting directly to the Human Capital Director, PCU works through global partnerships and an agile, project-based model that supports leadership development, innovation, and technical capability across the energy sector. PCU first received CLIP accreditation in 2016 and was granted re-accreditation in 2021.

HC 5.0 as a human capital framework

The CLIP Peer Review Team was particularly impressed by the “HC 5.0” vision, a forward-looking framework that reframes human capital development. It anticipates an operating model increasingly supported by artificial intelligence, with routine services automated while a stronger focus on human-centred capability balances this.

The approach emphasises servant leadership and psychological safety. Within this framing, PCU carries responsibility for strengthening “human-only” capabilities, including compassion, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity.

Structural elevation and operating model change

A key development has been the elevation of PCU within the corporate structure. Following earlier recommendations, the university now reports directly to the Human Capital Director, and its leadership has been appointed at the Senior Vice President level. This shift has been accompanied by increased institutional support and resources.

Headcount has more than doubled, and plans are underway for a dedicated learning centre and a full upgrade of digital infrastructure. To support this scale-up, PCU has adopted, in parts, an agile, project-based operating model that enables flexible deployment of expertise across leadership and functional academies in response to organisational priorities.

External engagement in capability development

PCU has also been recognised for its “outside-in” approach to capability development. Rather than functioning as a closed corporate unit, it engages directly with the global academic and scientific community. Experts from leading universities and research institutions are invited to contribute through sabbaticals within the organisation, supporting work in areas including renewable energy and data science.

This approach is reflected in the expansion of its portfolio, which now includes a Digital School, a Sustainability Academy, and a New and Renewable Energy Academy. These units are designed to develop enterprise-wide capabilities aligned with Pertamina’s role in the energy transition.

Strategic planning and performance governance

Reviewers also highlighted the clarity of PCU’s 2026–2030 strategic roadmap. The plan places greater emphasis on forward-looking indicators rather than retrospective measures. It focuses on metrics such as leadership pipeline readiness, return on learning investment, and the health of the corporate learning environment.

This emphasis on measurement and accountability reflects a structured approach to governance and performance management. Taken together, the human-centred vision, increased organisational investment, and strengthened accountability framework position PCU as a leading example in corporate education and provided a compelling basis for the recommendation to grant CLIP accreditation for a five-year period.

Robby Rafid, Senior Vice President, Pertamina Corporate University, commented:

“As the first corporate university in Indonesia to receive CLIP accreditation in 2016, Pertamina Corporate University is honoured to be re‑accredited with CLIP for the next five years. This achievement reflects strong governance, close alignment with business strategy, and a continuous focus on learning impact. Pertamina Corporate University remains committed to developing future‑ready leaders and capabilities that support Pertamina’s long‑term transformation and sustainability agenda.”
