Sincere Thoughts & Condolences from EFMD – Roland van Dierdonck

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear colleague and friend, prof. Roland van Dierdonck, who was part of the EFMD Quality Services team between 2007 and 2014.

Prof. Roland van Dierdonck, the former dean of Vlerick Business School, dedicated his career to promoting quality and excellence in management education globally.

Roland actively contributed to the evolution of the EQUIS accreditation system, accompanying many schools around the world in pursuing their quality development objectives with diligence and care. Roland was a dedicated senior EQUIS accreditation team member and, participated in 24 EQUIS peer review visits, having taken the responsibility of chairing 11 of them. He has also contributed to the development of the EFMD Programme Accreditation System, participating in four and chairing one review visit.

Roland was an adherent and an advocate for the internationalisation of business education and led numerous collaborative efforts across the network with enthusiasm and conviction.

Apart from his excellent leadership, research record and industry insights, which helped schools worldwide climb the quality improvement ladder, Roland was a wonderful man, full of kindness, compassion and humanity. His humbleness and thoughtfulness inspired colleagues and partners at EFMD.

The management education community has lost an outstanding leader and a genuine and beautiful person. Roland has been a long-standing and great friend of EFMD, and words can’t express our grief. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues and the whole academic community. Please accept our sincere condolences.

Prof. Eric Cornuel, President, EFMD Global
