The role of business education in an unstable, unpredictable and unsustainable world
Diana Grote provides a preview of the upcoming 2023 EFMD Annual Conference, where we will discuss the role of business education in today’s world.
Our world is constantly changing, and the number of challenges we are facing, both as individuals and as institutions, is continuously growing.
Business education is strongly impacted by the geopolitical context but also by changing expectations from its stakeholders. While it is reassuring to get together and realise that we are all struggling with the same issues, it is time to ask ourselves what we can do to actively shape the future we want to live in.
The 2023 EFMD Annual Conference will take place in Lyon, France, from 11-13 June. Together with our Steering Committee, we have chosen to explore the theme “The role of business education in an unstable, unpredictable and unsustainable world”. It will be an opportunity to learn and discuss the following topics:
- What is the purpose of business education, and what is our role in shaping a better future?
- How can we deal effectively with what happens during an economic downturn, and how does it relate to our industry?
- How can we move from greenwashing to climate leadership? What does a carbon-neutral business school look like?
- How can we reshape globalization and deal with threats to the internationalisation agenda? How can we advocate for openness in dialogue and society?
- What is the purpose of research, and what are best practice examples of scholarly impact?
- What are the expectations of our students, and how can we innovate our curricula to reflect these expectations and needs?
