Joerg Niessing of INSEAD named Outstanding Case Teacher 2025
The Case Centre has recognised Joerg Niessing, Senior Affiliate Professor of Marketing at INSEAD, as the Outstanding Case Teacher 2025, honouring his excellence in case method teaching.
Awarded since 2013, the international Outstanding Case Teacher competition celebrates educators who excel in case teaching through innovative and creative methods. The winner is announced each year as part of the #WorldCaseTeachingDay celebrations.
For over 12 years at INSEAD, Joerg has been bringing real-world insights into his cases and teaching. Through direct interviews with C-level executives, enriching cases with supplementary videos, and guest appearances by case protagonists; Joerg facilitates a deeper exploration and connection with case material.
In 2024, Joerg took case-based learning a step further by publishing his first virtual reality case, enabling immersive role-play that goes beyond the limitations of a traditional classroom.
Beyond the classroom, Joerg has been a leading advocate for expanding case-based learning across INSEAD’s executive education programmes. Through mentoring new educators, leading faculty workshops, and sharing best practices in case teaching, Joerg is advancing the case method and enhancing students’ learning experiences.
Vicky Lester, Chief Executive Officer of The Case Centre and chair of the judging panel, said:
“Joerg Niessing is an expert consultant, prolific case writer, and innovative teacher. As the author of a considerable number of cases he’s able to engage with cases deeply in the classroom, while his excellent delivery enhances his ability to connect with multiple audiences.
“It’s clear that Joerg has a natural ability to engage students using diverse and tailored methods, including his integration of new trends and technologies, and his humour. His use of AI and virtual reality in particular, speaks to his adaptability and willingness to evolve which is essential in reflecting the wider societal context.”
Joerg commented:
“Winning this award is a tremendous honour and a deeply meaningful recognition of my passion and commitment to case teaching. Teaching with cases has always been about more than just sharing knowledge. It’s about empowering students to think critically, embrace ambiguity, and lead with confidence.
“This achievement has only been possible because of my supportive colleagues at INSEAD who continuously motivate and energise me; the fantastic companies who collaborate with us in writing cases; the guest lecturers by case protagonists who bring their stories to life; and, most importantly, the students and executive leaders in the classroom.”
