Invitation to event: ‘Bridging the gap: Equipping educators for sustainable development’
Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play a critical role in equipping future generations with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to navigate the complex challenges of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sulitest is organising an event at the United Nations for the 8th year in a row to bring together influential leaders in higher education.
On Wednesday, 17 July, from 17:30 to 19:15 CEST, Sulitest will host an online event to explore how schools can better educate students on sustainability and scale up successful practices across institutions.
Agenda
- State of Sustainability Knowledge: This segment will explore the current state of sustainability knowledge within HEIs. Through the analysis of The Assessment of Sustainability Knowledge (TASK™), areas where improvement is most needed will be highlighted.
- Global Faculty Engagement Survey Insights: To shed light on how to achieve this improvement, findings from a global survey on faculty engagement will be shred. This survey looks to identify the main obstacles and key levers and engagement strategies to support educators in transforming curriculum towards a more sustainable future.
Panel Discussions: Scaling Sustainability in Higher Education
The highlight of the event is two dynamic panel discussions featuring representatives from networks, rankings organisations and accreditation bodies. This panel will explore actionable strategies to scale sustainability education worldwide.
- Quality & assessment (FT, THE, QS, AACSB, PIR & EFMD): The role of measurement and the impact of good practices in higher education is viewed through the lens of those who measure and compare institutional performance.
- Expanding innovative practices (AASHE, PRME, SDSN & SOS / HESI Student Action Group): The role of networks in transforming best practices from a few pioneers into widely adopted common practices.
Meet the speakers
Duncan Ross, Leigh Kamolins, Andrew Jack, Susan Hart, Lily Bi and Prof. Dr. Katrin Muff will be discussing the role of measurement to promote good practices, and sharing the changes they hope to incentivise through the metrics they value.
Meghan Fay Zahniser, Patrick Paul Walsh, Quinn Runkle and Meredith Storey will be exploring the role of networks in transforming best practices from a few pioneers into widely adopted common practices.
Their commitment to pushing forward the sustainability agenda is inspiring, and the panel discussions, moderated by John North and Kathleen Ng, promise to be rich with insights.
Other sessions include:
- Key trends on the state of sustainability knowledge worldwide, as measured by TASK by Sulitest.
- A review of what was learned through Sulitest’s global survey about the obstacles and levers to bring faculty on board the sustainability movement.
