ISEG School of Economics and Management, Universidade de Lisboa

ISEG is the first Portuguese school of economics and management and is part of the largest university in the country, the University of Lisbon. Officially founded in 1911, ISEG’s origins trace back to the “Commerce Class” established in 1759 to offer secondary education in technical and commercial fields. Today, ISEG provides comprehensive programmes in business, economics, finance, and social studies to approximately 4,000 students. Its mission is to create, share, and enhance the social and economic value of knowledge and culture, fostering an environment of pluralism, intellectual and scientific freedom, ethics, social responsibility, and sustainable development. The recent EQUIS accreditation aligns with this mission, recognising ISEG’s exceptional standing within the University of Lisbon and the broader Portuguese society.

João Duque, Dean, ISEG School of Economics and Management, commented, ‘The EQUIS accreditation awarded to ISEG proves that our top-tier education meets the highest international standards. As Dean of this public school of economics and management, I’m immensely proud. Despite the challenges and constraints encountered, we’ve achieved this level of excellence while at the same time maintaining our Portuguese identity — our culture, language, irreverence, freedom of thought, innovation, ambition for change, commitment to sustainable development, and active public engagement— We give back to Portuguese society, honouring what it provides us”.
