In Memoriam: Prof. David Asch – A Remarkable Leader and Friend

Prof. Asch, former Director of EFMD’s Quality Services, brought unparalleled dedication and expertise to his role, steering our organisation through several years of progress and accomplishment. His illustrious career, which included distinguished positions such as Dean of the Open University Business School, showcased a rare combination of academic excellence, leadership, and a deep passion for online learning.

David’s impact extended far beyond his official duties. He lent his formidable skills and insights to international development projects, serving as an advisor to the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia and the World Bank. His commitment to human resource development and civil service reform in Ethiopia and his contributions to distance learning in emerging countries exemplify the transformative power of his work.

In his role as the Director of Quality Services, David guided schools worldwide in their pursuit of quality development objectives with meticulous care. His involvement in numerous accreditation peer review visits, totalling 19 EQUIS and 11 Programme Accreditation assessments, underscored his dedication to excellence.

A fervent advocate for innovation in business education, David led collaborative efforts across our network with boundless enthusiasm. He believed in the profound impact of quality processes, inspiring positive change and progress.

Beyond his professional achievements, David was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and humanity. His exceptional openness and thoughtfulness endeared him to colleagues and partners alike, making him not just a respected leader but a truly wonderful individual.

The loss of David is deeply felt across the entire management education community. Words fall short in expressing the grief we share. David was a long-standing and great friend of EFMD, and the void left by his passing is immeasurable.
