EFMD is delighted to announce the 2022 EFMD Excellence in Practice Silver Award Winners.
Since 2007, the EFMD Excellence in Practice (EiP) Awards have recognised outstanding and impactful client-supplier partnerships in the domains of Organisational, Talent, Leadership and Ecosystem Development.
The 2022 Silver Award Winners in the following four categories are:
‘It’s been very important for DNB to invest in this leadership programme. It has helped us build a leadership culture that amplifies our energy and potential, all in the service of customers. We are now in it together, as One DNB. Together with IMD, we have created a whole new culture of learning across the organisation. The combination of action learning methodology with virtual sessions and internal/external coaching has produced new ways of learning – efficient, creative, exciting,’ said Katrine Kalelic, DNB Senior Vice President – Head of Leadership, Talent & Team Development
Ina Toegel, IMD Professor of Leadership and Organizational Change observed, ‘Partnering with DNB was a very rewarding experience for the IMD team. DNB made a bold choice by opting for an unconventional learning design that included cross-functional shadowing, which took place virtually for 230 leaders. This was a more challenging but ultimately much more impactful learning journey.’
Standard Bank & Henley Business School Africa
Mei-lene Els, Senior Learning Partner, Standard Bank, and Linda Buckley, Head of Learning Experience and Executive Education Director, Henley Business School Africa, had this to say about their partnership, ‘”Africa is our Home we drive her growth” is the mantra that lies at the core of Standard Bank. “We build the people who build the businesses that build Africa” is woven into the fibre of Henley Business School Africa. Merging these two compelling convictions, along with eight other industry-leading providers and eleven internal executive experts, created a symphony of learning that echoed across 14 African countries. Having this collaborative talent development initiative recognised by the EFMD on the international stage is one of the proudest moments we have enjoyed as drivers of people development across our continent. The Acceleration Journey gave rise to true leadership development, inclusive of deliberate succession planning, by accelerating talented African leaders to take on new, bigger and more complex roles in the organisation. True to the equation for acceleration, the inspiration for the programme name, this journey has lived up to its promise of growing people in size and velocity in a specific direction, within an accelerated timeframe.
We are honoured to receive this prestigious Silver award as an acknowledgement of the footprints we are leaving in African soil as we grow our talent to compete on a global scale. We are delighted to showcase this collaboration as a blueprint of the investment in African leaders to bring about individual and organisational shifts, propelling us all forward. Thank you, EFMD, for affording us the opportunity to learn with and from other great global institutions via this platform.’
Kuehne+Nagel & LIW
“Culture transformation to drive performance in a changing world”
‘Kuehne+Nagel and LIW – a strong partnership on a development programme that delivers impact to both the participants and the organisation at large, the innovative approach that engages and challenges throughout a nine-month journey, the agility in switching to a virtual environment without compromising the essence of learning … it feels good to have this collaboration rewarded! We want to pay homage to the many people involved in the design, delivery, marketing, sponsorship, leadership, attendance … it truly takes a ‘village’ to deliver a powerful programme,’ noted Claudine Lewis, Senior Vice President, Corporate Human Resources, Kuehne+Nagel.
UK Fire and Rescue Services (National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC)) & Warwick Business School, The University of Warwick
“From Heroic Leader to Adaptive Leadership”
Tim Wray, Director of Executive Education at Warwick Business School said, ‘We are extremely proud to win this award for our custom programme with the UK Fire and Rescue Service. The programme has created a strong pipeline of senior leadership talent for a vital public service, with the number of applicants deemed ready to step into leadership roles up by 300 per cent. It also delivered greater inclusivity with a step-change in the number of women applying. In such a demanding job the programme not only taught valuable leadership skills, but has brought about a major shift in the leadership culture across the fire service. A collaborative and shared approach to leadership, one more suited to the complex challenges facing leaders in the fire service today, has been adopted. Moreover, the greater self-awareness that leaders develop on the programme is evident in how they engage and lead their teams. The work we do with organisations at WBS is informed by world-leading research in key areas including leadership, strategy, behavioural science and digital transformation and delivered by faculty who are highly skilled and experienced in working with senior leaders to deliver real-world impact. The Fire and Rescue Service is a great example of this.’
Chris Blacksell, Chief Fire Officer, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service & UK National Fire Chiefs Council lead for Executive Leadership commented, ‘I am delighted that the Executive Leadership Programme has won the Silver Award in the Excellence in Practice Awards 2022. It is a fantastic partnership between the National Fire Chief’s Council and Warwick Business School which has resulted in hundreds of senior leaders in Fire and Rescue Services across the UK gaining high quality, bespoke, leadership development to help them to lead effectively in the ever-changing, and complex world that Fire and Rescue Services operate in. Having groups of leaders so well developed, both academically and practically, in such a challenging, but safe, learning environment who are so diverse in terms of their roles, background and thinking has significant benefits for our staff and for the communities that we serve.’
