College of Economics and Political Science, Sultan Qaboos University, became EQUIS accredited

We are extending our warmest congratulations to the College of Economics and Political Science, Sultan Qaboos University in Oman for their recent EQUIS accreditation!

The Peer Review Team would like to commend the school for the strength of its sense of mission, the depth of its corporate connections, especially on the national level, the availability of internships and the level of internationalisation of its staff, among other things.

Martin Schader, Associate Director at EFMD Quality Services, said: “We were very impressed with the strength and depth of the School’s corporate connections at the national level. As the sole public university in Oman, SQU is a “national champion”, enjoying the high patronage of Sultan Qaboos. We praise the way the university’s and the school’s strategic directions are closely aligned with those set for the country.”

Khamis Hamed Al-Yahyaee, Dean of College of Economics and Political Science at the Sultan Qaboos University, said: “The EQUIS accreditation is a remarkable achievement for the College of Economics & Political Science and marks a new milestone in our history. It is a strong endorsement of the rigour and high quality of our academic programmes. It comes as a result of the continuous efforts of the College to achieve leadership in business and political science education and help foster a knowledge society in Oman and abroad. As of now, we are proud to lay claim to being the first and only public school in the entire Middle East to achieve this prestigious accreditation. Since its establishment, the College has worked with high professionalism and persistent endeavour to achieve all the requirements for accreditation by applying quality systems and standards according to well-defined strategic plans. This international accreditation will enhance the competitiveness of the College, help our graduates to win admission to well-reputed international universities, and further enhance confidence in the quality of our graduates in the domestic and international labour markets. The accreditation will also widen and deepen the prospects for strengthening partnerships with the private sector, not only at the local level but in the region as a whole. It will help attract talented faculty and staff to work in the College.”

EQUIS has become the global standard for management education and nearly half of the 180 accredited schools are located outside Europe. EQUIS’ respect for diversity, commitment to internationalisation and corporate connections are deeply rooted in the EFMD mission.

With an estimated number of 15,000 business schools worldwide, only a handful (180 institutions from 44 countries) hold the EQUIS quality label and they can say without being too boastful that they are part of “1 % of leading business schools”.
